Official Launching of APEC Architect Register


After 5 years of preparations with other members of the APEC Architect Project, the APEC Architect Project Hong Kong Monitoring Committee announced the launching of the APEC Architect Register on 16 September 2005. The APEC Architect Project aims at facilitating the mobility of qualified persons by developing a means for the mutual recognition of skills and qualifications of architects in the provision of professional services amongst 14 member economies, including Australia, Canada, the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Republic of Mexico, new Zealand, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States. The Register has also been launched in the 14 participating economies of the APEC Architect Project, and has become operative starting from 19 September 2005.

A launching ceremony was held at ARB/HKIA Premises to commemorate this important milestone in the architecture field in the Asian Pacific Region in the morning of 16 September 2005. Mr John Tsang, JP, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, HKSAR, officiated the launching ceremony which was well attended by guests from consulates, allied institutes, and the architecture and construction industry.

Mr Thomas Ling, Chairman of the APEC Architect Project Hong Kong Monitoring Committee and Architect Registration Board, delivered welcoming remarks in the launching ceremony.

Mr John Tsang, JP, Mr Thomas Ling and Prof Bernard Lim launched the Register together.
